The subject is being added to the Expressive Arts curriculum from Early Years to S6 and is an attempt to boost and promote the Film Industry in Scotland, allowing young people to learn about the wide variety and range of job opportunities within this industry. The Experiences and Outcomes teach young people the knowledge and skills needed to work in such an industry.
In summer 2024 and 2025, Mrs Matthews attended 3 weeks of summer school training in Film and Screen education. This was run in by Education Scotland in conjunction with Creative Scotland.
Mrs Matthews then completed an Education Scotland pilot with P5 who planned, wrote, filmed and edited their own short movies, which were showcased to parents and the school community. Feedback was very positive from both pupils and teachers.
In September 2025, the new Film and Screen curriculum was formally launched by elected members of parliament and Education Scotland as part of the review of Curriculum for Excellence. One of the P5 films was screened in the Contemporary Arts Cinema for the invited audience to see. It was a great day for all involved!
We continue to develop opportunities to weave the Es and Os into our Enquiries within the classroom to provide a continuous approach to Film and Screen Education at Craigdhu.
